The Spinning Timmer

Description

The graphic I made here about time is a simple DJ turntable which you can "put on the disk" to "start music." The rotating of the disk means the song is playing while the time in real life is showing below at the same time. The idea came from my experience leaning to be a DJ. For music workers, it is very important to calculate time as the song goes by.

Design Process

There are a lot of changes in this design. At first I tried to have two turntables here with 2 disks which could run and the same time while the song is playing. So when one starts to play the other disk could also be put on and matching the beat of the two songs which makes it more like a real DJ set. But after uploading the music files I tried different ways to start the music but they don't work so I have to change it to a simpler idea with only one disk is rotating representing the playing of the song.

I have 3 different ideas to represent time at first. I would like to document the ideas for future use. My first idea is about this dj turntable. The reason is that I am a DJ myself because I have studied at the DJ institution. for DJs, time is the most elements we care about, so I have strong feelings with time when I was playing music, and that gives me the idea of using it to illustrate tume.

The second idea is to use the moving down of submarine from the surface of tge ocean all the way to the bottom. The ocean is I have studied about the layers of oceans which classified by the depth of it. Different kind of sea animals live in different layers, and my idea is to use the moving up of these amimal graphics to represent the moving down of the submarine. It shows the flow of time.

My third idea is to make part of the city plan into the graphic maze and use the dot to represent myself to show the locations I may get to during daily like which fits my schedule. It is more like a game of "finish task."

After talking to my instructor, I think the first and second ideas are more doable due to the complesity of the third one. I decided to keep my first idea first. The moving in the maze is kind of out of my ability now.

Reflection

I think this assignment topic has a lot more possiblities. Time is a broad concept which there are so many different forms could be used to represent time. And different people have different ideas about time. I feel like there could be a series of these little projects being made to talk about time.
